China Heavy Truck Exports Keep Climbing in 2026: What It Means for Global HOWO Tractor Truck Buyers
Sep 22, 2026

China's heavy truck industry has once again proven that export demand — not the domestic market — is the engine of growth in 2026. According to data from China's commercial vehicle sector, August wholesale heavy truck sales reached roughly 83,000 units, down about 9% year-on-year, yet overseas exports continued to surge with growth of more than 35% compared with the same month last year.

August 2026 Heavy Truck Market at a Glance

  • Total industry sales: around 83,000 units in August (wholesale, including exports and new energy vehicles), down about 9.4% year-on-year.
  • Exports: continued double-digit growth, up more than 35% year-on-year — the strongest segment of the market.
  • January–August cumulative sales: approximately 828,000 units, up about 16% year-on-year.
  • Market leader: Sinotruk (CNHTC) sold about 28,000 heavy trucks in August, up around 10% against the overall market decline.

Sinotruk HOWO: Still the Export Benchmark

From January to August 2026, Sinotruk sold about 247,000 heavy trucks, a year-on-year increase of roughly 25%, taking its market share to nearly 30%. What matters most for international buyers is this: more than half of Sinotruk's total sales now come from overseas markets, and the company has held the No.1 position in China's heavy truck exports for 21 consecutive years.

Its key export regions — Africa, Southeast Asia, Central Asia and the Middle East — are exactly the markets where the HOWO platform has built its reputation: simple structure, strong powertrain options (Weichai and Sinotruk engines with FAST gearboxes), cheap and widely available spare parts, and mechanics in nearly every major city who know the truck inside out.

What the Export Boom Means for Buyers

For fleet operators, transport companies and dealers sourcing tractor trucks from China, a booming export market has three practical consequences:

  1. Production capacity is running hot. Popular configurations such as the HOWO 6x4 371HP and 375HP tractor heads sell quickly. Ordering early locks in better pricing and shorter delivery windows.
  2. The parts ecosystem keeps expanding. Higher export volumes mean deeper inventories of filters, brake parts, cabin components and engine spares in destination markets — lowering your long-term operating risk.
  3. Configuration options are richer than ever. Manufacturers are actively localizing products for African, Middle Eastern and Southeast Asian conditions: reinforced frames, dust-proof air filtration, high-temperature cooling and left/right-hand drive options.

New and Used: Both Doors Are Open

While brand-new HOWO NX and N7 tractors with Euro 6 engines attract the headlines, the second-hand HOWO market remains one of the best value propositions in global heavy transport. A well-inspected used HOWO 6x4 371HP or 375HP tractor can cost a fraction of a new European tractor while delivering dependable performance on mining, construction and long-haul duties.

As a used vehicle export enterprise approved by China's Ministry of Commerce and a trailer manufacturer approved by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, Shandong Zhongsheng (ZS Truck) supplies both new and used HOWO tractor trucks and semi trailers to customers in more than 100 countries.
